3.5yo Betsy says she made an angry Grrr! face
Incredible Art Deco sleeve tattoo…
I am a visual/kinesthetic learner. That means I learn and absorb best through observing and doing, or through observing *while* doing something with my hands (whether related or not). In other words if I must *hear* what needs to be learned, I need to also write it down. Since I’m not seeing it, if I don’t also write it, the lecturer’s voice is basically Charlie Brown’s Teacher. I am incredibly good at taking notes/outlining and actually had people buy copies of my outline notes in college.
It means that I touch and feel everything. A trip to the fabric or yarn store will often leave my fingertips sore from touching everything, like a 3 year old. It also means I am almost constantly doing something with my hands, whether it’s cooking, knitting, quilting, drawing, or touching one of my kids.
And the last thing it means is that I’m often considered rude. I touch a person’s article of clothing. I knit a sock during the sermon at church. I did a tattoo drawing during our state-required Divorcing Parents class.
I draw everything, on everything.
When I was 6, my mom & dad built their own house. Mom says if you demolished their house, you would find my drawings and name written in 30 different scripts on half the studs and sub-flooring in the house.
I let my kids draw on things (within reason). One time when she was 3 my daughter Veronica drew a lopsided smiley-face on the wall in the family room about 3’ up from the floor with a permanent marker. She got in trouble but I left the drawing because it was so cheery. I thought about hanging a frame around it. Broke my heart when we moved & I had to paint over it to sell the house.
Art is my life.
Alphonse Mucha is one of my favorite artists EVER.
If I can tattoo like he could illustrate, there will be no stopping me.
Small quilt top from earlier this week… made from fabric cutting scraps from hand dyed fabrics.
The best thing about having art\design skills, is that people who don’t, think you’re a sorcerer.
