Hamncheezr: Today

hamncheezr:

  • I ate entirely too many pieces of pizza (at 5 and counting, I think)
  • Worked 7 hours straight.  I’m over it. How do you 40hr a week people live with yourselves?
  • I knit a little one a linen stitch bracelet to use up some sock yarn and I hated every minute of it, so I quit. Plus the linen stitch was tighter than the rest so it was making the garter stitch border look like bacon. So I quit.

Tonight:

  • I’m tired.  I woke up with a bad headache and it hasn’t let up or left despite my eating a handful of children’s ibuprofen at church.
  • I need to do dishes and put up the rest of the walmart stuff and sweep the floor.
  • I need to give Hannah a shower and tidy the living room ‘cause it looks like crack heads live here.

Random:

  • My birthday is Tuesday.

~~~~~
I love my kid. Best Valentine I ever got, even though I didn’t get a box of chocolates that day.
Today
I did too much. As is my habit.
I helped my daughter.
I helped a friend.
Somebody made me cry.
Somebody else made me laugh.
Finally I need to sleep.
I’ve earned it.
Today
At work I scrubbed and sterilized tubes but didn’t get to tattoo anybody.
After work I helped Veronica unbury about 75% of her bedroom.
Then I mowed the back & side yards (Wolf mowed the front today).
I’ve been up since 6:30 AM.
Think Ima call it a night.
This just about summarizes today.
So far today I overslept, rode an hour out to the mountains to pile rocks in a roadbed, (getting mud and possibly cow shit in a new tattoo), sent a son to Africa, had a daughter get her first period, and broke an essential part off Wolf’s car.
So today
The FMP said I have a chronic bladder infection from the stones. I have to take another 10-day course of bactrim & then 2 months of a different antibiotic low-dose.
I had a 2-degree fever & my BP was up, too.
She said there’s a good possibility that the scratches the stones make are colonized with bacteria. That’s why it keeps coming back & why I need the long-term treatment.
Lucky meee!
It was an over-$100 day. I ended up with a tremendous headache.
A hot shower & some ibuprofen, 1st dose of antibiotic, pizza, curled up on the couch with a quilt and knitting, watching a silly movie with everybody made me feel a little better.
However, now that the kids are abed, I am just about done in.
Earlier today, this was the kids’ room at my daughter Des’ house.  Right now the 7yob and 4yog share a room because Des’ family took in a friend who became homeless.
Not only do her kids have a LOT of toys, but the toys themselves have a LOT of pieces.  And last night we grownups were doing stuff like talking and drinking and making food and painting kitchen cabinets while 5 kids (hers and mine, ages 4-14) played, largely unsupervised, in this room.
When we were packing up stuff to go home I said, do you want me to stay a while and help you clean the kids’ room?  She said, “I don’t even know where to start.”  I said, “Let’s just START.”
They need to put in a new, taller bookshelf unit, so some of that couldn’t be organized.  We filled 2 large trash bags and hauled several toys out to my trunk to be dropped off at the thrift store by where I work.
But in ONE, 45-minute session, the two of us working together accomplished THIS.
So this happened today…
Suddenly my weather app is predicting sun and warm.
Guess who’s getting up early tomorrow to go to the licensure office to get tags for my bike? God forbid I sit through a perfect-weather weekend, not being able to ride the new iron horse because it doesn’t have tags on it.
This day in history:
Minutes before giving a speech on a campaign stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Theodore Roosevelt is shot in an assassination attempt.
The would-be assassin’s bullet is slowed down after travelling through a steel eyeglass case and the folded, fifty page speech he intended to give, stopping in his chest.  Realizing that he wasn’t coughing up blood, Roosevelt figured he was well enough to go ahead and deliver his speech rather than rush to the hospital.
He spoke for the next 90 minutes, opening with the words:
Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.”
Doctors deemed it too risky to remove the bullet, and Roosevelt carried it with him inside his body for the rest of his life.
October 14, 1912 - 99 years ago today.
There will never be another badass like this.  No joke.
Since today became today along about midnight
We’ve
  • had great sex
  • slept (OHMYGAHH the BEST SLEEP)
  • fed the animals
  • had breakfast
  • had awesome sex
  • had brunch
  • he played a video game while I looked up places to go skating
I need to
  • rescreen the windows
  • do a couple loads of laundry
  • mend a pair of pants
  • knit
  • we were going to go skating but I think we’re going walking instead (later this afternoon)
  • start pulling fabrics for our quilt
I want to:
  • rescreen windows
  • nap
  • knit
I get two days off.  Yesterday was constant activity from the get-go.  Today my house is quiet, no kids.  I have absolutely no drive or ambition or energy.  I deserve a damn nap if I want one.
What I needed to do:
• rescreen the windows
• do a couple loads of laundry
• mend a pair of pants
• knit
• we were going to go skating but I think we’re going walking instead (later this afternoon)
•start pulling fabrics for our quilt
What I did:
• nap for 3.5 hours
• go walking
• rescreen the living room windows
• mend pants. My sewing machine is acting up so I did the patches & rear seam by hand
• package soap samples for mailing
• finally knitting!
• and watching the last two episodes that we’re behind on, of Doctor Who
Not such a non-productive day after all. Hmmm.
Today was good (post number 11,600)
I didn’t get anything done on the room.  Artemas’ truck died along the highway so he didn’t make it over.  I’m worried about him.
We stopped in to see Miss Autumne and she’s the same as ever.  Told us about Christmas with her family.  She said my license renewals will come to her shop and she’ll make sure I get them.  Said she misses my bubbly goofiness.
We drove out to Seymour just to top the hill by Kroger, where suddenly the Great Smoky Mountains are THERE, right in your face and in front of you and all around from left to right.  It’s awesome and humbling and breathtaking and beautiful.
Went to Knox Rail Salvage to price a pocket door frame and slab.  Cheaper than Home Depot, and it’s in pre-fab form so we don’t have to build it from a kit, which is all Home Depot carries now.
Came home and ate junk food and watched several hours of Doctor Who.  We’re finally caught up on all the back episodes.
I didn’t knit.  I didn’t feel like it.  So?
Earlier in the day we had a little dispute but in the grand scheme of things, it was only a blip.  Some things are important and some you can say, “Ok, I messed up, you messed up, and that’s over, let’s not do that again but let’s don’t let it interfere with what we’re about either.”
I’ve enjoyed a couple kid-free days, just hanging out and getting some rest and spending some much-needed time together.  Back to work tomorrow!
Today I’ve been useless
I’ve looked up how to change out the thermostat on my car but because the directions include removing the cooling fan AND alternator belt AND an air dam to get to it, I think I need help.  While the weather has been cold, driving the 13 miles to work wasn’t a problem, but with the weather being warmer, Wolf doesn’t want me to drive to work and possibly damage the new engine in the car until I get it fixed.
Artemas can’t come help because his car is dead right now too.  Tomorrow Wolf works 11-2 and 5-8pm so he could take me to work at 11, but when I get off at 5 I’d have to walk the 3 miles to where he works and hang out til he gets off.  (I need the exercise, true… but the thought isn’t appealing after 6 hours of being on my feet already)
During the night it seems like Zaphod pulled up his tether stake. This morning he was in the yard with no chain and no stake.  Here’s the kicker, even if he pulled it up & got it caught on something in his travels, the chain was hooked to his collar with a c-screw.  He can’t get that undone.  So that means a human had to unscrew it.  People know that if a pitbull is found loose, animal control will pick it up and put it down usually right away.  So even though Zaphod is harmless, I wonder if someone let him off the screw, hoping he’d get picked up and euthanized.
So far I’ve sat on the couch and not even knitted but the inactivity has felt good.
Now however I have to drive my car (I can do it, it’s only 3 miles) over to TSC to get a new stakeout, chain, c-screw, and a bag of cement to anchor the stakeout into the ground.  And then go do it.
Sometimes I wish only one problem would hit at a time. :o/
Tonight’s dinner is pork chops with au gratin potatoes and asparagus, so that’s something to look forward to.
Now to get dressed and venture forth…
No kids at home this morning
But I’m up, walked the dog. The weather seems mean today. Cold, thick gray cloud cover, hard winds.
Now I’m at the Humane Society’s once-a-month free spay or neuter certificate giveaway.
I’m next to a post office but have a package to pick up at a different post office near home.
Then on to the UPS store for copies of PDF files
Have to go back home to package up my knitswap
Then on to yet another post office to mail it (since the one by home closes in less than an hour)
I’ll have time for cuddles, knitting, and at least one stupid movie before I go to work 4:30 to 11:30.
My tattoo isn’t hurting today. Ima put this one in the win column.
